Your SSSTS certificate is valid for 5 years.
Anyone who is already working as a Site Supervisor, or those who will be promoted into this role.
This two-day course introduces Site Supervisors to their legal responsibilities regarding health, safety, welfare and environmental issues.
The SSSTS course aims to help supervisors supervise health and safety on construction sites per current and constantly changing legal provisions (within their role).
To cultivate a sense of responsibility and accountability for the health, safety, and welfare of workers on site.
To understand that maintaining a safe site contributes to efficiency, cost-effectiveness, productivity, and environmental sustainability.
Delegates should either currently hold or be on the verge of holding a supervisory position. They must also possess proficiency in English at the site supervisor level.
Assessment will consist of an end-of-course examination and a trainer review. Delegates must pass the exam and all three components of the trainer review to be successful.
The certificate is awarded only to delegates who successfully complete both an assessment and an examination. The trainer review evaluates essential qualities for becoming a supervisor, including engagement, collaborative working, and listening skills.
The paper consists of 25 questions, 22 of which are multiple choice and 3 short-written questions.
Additionally, there are four safety critical questions at the beginning of each paper which must be answered correctly. This exam paper must be taken at the end of the SSSTS course.
You will need at least 24 out of 30 marks, which is 80%, to pass the SSSTS course.
The exam lasts 30 minutes and must be completed within this time.
This exam forms a part of the overall course to be awarded the Site Supervisor Safety Training Scheme (SSSTS) certificate.
Upon successfully completing the course you will be awarded a CITB Site Safety Plus certificate. This qualification must be renewed every five years by attending the SSSTS Refresher Course.
The Site Supervision Safety Training Scheme (SSSTS) is a two-day course designed for those who have, or are about to acquire, supervisory responsibilities in the building, construction, and civil engineering industries. It covers relevant legislation, risk assessment, control measures, and communication to promote a health and safety culture among the workforce. The course is endorsed by Build UK and exceeds the CITB standards for construction supervisors training.
Delegates should hold or be about to hold a supervisory role and must be competent in English at the site supervisor level. This ensures they can effectively understand and apply the course content.
The SSSTS course aims to help site supervisors:
The SSSTS course lasts for two days, totaling 15 hours of instruction. Delegates must complete the entire course to be eligible for certification. Attendance is required in sequence, and if not on consecutive days, the course must be completed within two weeks. Delegates who miss any part of the course due to extenuating circumstances must re-enrol and attend both days again.
The assessment involves an end-of-course examination and a trainer review. Delegates must pass both the exam and all three elements of the trainer review, which assess engagement, collaborative working, and listening skills—key elements for becoming an effective supervisor.
After completing the SSSTS course, a natural progression would be to attend the Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS) course. This course further enhances the knowledge and skills required for site management roles, building on the foundation provided by the SSSTS course.
