Formworking NVQ FAQs

Yes, to apply for a Blue CSCS Skilled Worker Card, you must hold a Level 2 NVQ in a relevant trade such as formworking. This qualification proves your competence and allows you to legally work on construction sites across the UK.

The NVQ Level 2  is assessed onsite while you work, meaning there are no exams or classroom-based learning. A qualified assessor will evaluate your skills through workplace observations, professional discussions, and evidence of completed tasks, ensuring you meet the required industry standards.

The time to complete the NVQ varies depending on your experience and how quickly you can gather the necessary evidence. Most candidates finish within 6 to 12 months, but experienced workers may complete it faster through Onsite Assessment and Training (OSAT).

  • Obtain an NVQ Level 6: Complete an NVQ Level 6 in Construction Site Management, demonstrating your skills and knowledge.
  • Get a Black CSCS Card: Achieve the NVQ Level 6 qualification to be eligible for the Black CSCS card, which is necessary for Managing onsite.
  • Meet Additional Requirements: Fulfil other requirements, such as relevant work experience and passing the CITB Health, Safety, and Environment Test.

There are no formal entry requirements for this NVQ. However, since it is assessed in the workplace, you must be employed in a formworking role to demonstrate your skills and complete the qualification.

A Level 2 NVQ in construction, including the Level 2 Diploma in Formworking, is equivalent to five GCSEs (grades A-C / 9-4)* in the UK education system.
